I'm Damn Bored

Amanda has gone to her dad's for the weekend. That leaves me here by myself till Sunday. I have cats to keep me company.

How fun.

I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do with myself to keep from boredom. I've debated watching LOTR non-stop all weekend, but before I do that I need to exchange the two DVDs that I got for Christmas and get the extended Two Towers DVD. I've also been debating on purchasing a DVD player for the PC since they've gotten so cheap and copying the DVDs to the computer and editing them together to have one long running movie.

Yes, I'm THAT bored.

The real problem here is that everyone I know here in Louisville is either out of town for Christmas or they have a family to consider ... or both. I'm the only person that I'm aware of that is going to be by him/herself this weekend. I'm sure that I'll be able to make the time, but I just really have a feeling that it's going to be a long weekend.

To give you another example of how bored I am, I'm working on installing Gentoo Linux. In case if you've never heard of it before, it's one of the most difficult Linux distributions to install ... but also one of the most rewarding, or so I hear. My primary machine is currently churning away on the "emerge system" command, and it's been doing it for over an hour already. I'm curious as to how long the total thing will take, as the "emerge system" command isn't the final step. Hopefully in the long run it'll make me a better Linux user.

In addition to installing Gentoo, I'm also debating having another go at the 2.6 kernel. My prior installation attempts have been rather lacking in the success department, but I figure since I really have nothing better planned for the weekend I'd give it another go.

It's really interesting ... as a child I used to get bored VERY easily. I would walk around the house and just get so damn frustrated at absolutely nothing because I was so bored. I found myself doing that exact thing this evening. I walked around the apartment looking for something to do, and there really isn't anything to do. I found myself getting frustrated, so I decided to sit down and write out my frustrations on this blog. I don't think that it's really helped.

One thing that I do have to admit tho, the blog is a great way to let out what you're feeling. I talked with mom earlier and she said that she'd rather have something that was private instead of something that everyone could read. I told her that was kind of the point ... you want people to read your blog. It doesn't matter what you post on it. If you're not comfortable putting up something, you don't have to. I really think that the real job of a blog is to let other people know what's going on in your world ... but you have total control over what they see and hear.

Oh well ... time to go and see how far along Gentoo is.

I Don't Do Sick Well

I've been sick since the last week of November. Here's the current rundown:

Vertigo - 2 weeks
Beginning to recover - 1 week
Flu - 1 week
Cough - 1 week
Cough with ear ache - 1 week

My latest problem has been with my ears. While I don't mind the cough ... and it's almost gone ... my ears are annoying the hell out of me. My left ear stays clogged up. I can feel the pressure in my ear, and I can hardly hear anything out of it.

Now, on Christmas night, my other ear starts to hurt. It's being progressive ... starting to hurt a little more as each hour passes. I've taken some medicine for the pain, but my real worry is that my right ear will clog too. I can barely hear as it is, I can't even imagine what I'm going to do if both ears are clogged up and I can't hear shit.

Amanda and I spent Christmas day cleaning up the apartment. Damn did it need it, but boy does it look good now. Amanda put out some of her Christmas candles (they were parts of her gifts from family this year) and I hung up the pictures that mom gave me of the family. The pictures are the only thing that I really requested for Christmas this year, as I have NEVER had any family photos to hang up. Mom definately came through on that one.

While a vast majority of the pictures are scanned and printed, some are originals ... which is nice. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the scanned copies, they look pretty nice, but there's just something about having an original copy of a picture. My favorite ones are of Prissy. I tend to forget how she looked from time to time, and I need a reminder. Now I have two really good pictures of her ... one hanging on my wall and the other in a frame on my desk.

I think the only remaining picture that I need to get is some of Amanda and myself. We only have ONE professionally done picture of ourselves together, and that was taken at a Christmas party 4 years ago. Taken after we just met ... when we were both much thinner than we are today, lol. I'd love to have a picture of us that's really recent. Maybe that can be a birthday present or something.

Speaking of presents, I am really diggin three of my Christmas presents (besides the pictures of course). My DVD/MP3 player is just too damn cool. I hooked it up to the TV earlier today and we watched half of Scary Movie 2 before we started cleaning. The other two presents that I'm diggin are my two new BNL CD's. Amanda got me the "Their Greatest Hits" and "Everything to Everyone". I ripped them to my computer first thing this morning and then burned all of my BNL MP3's to a CD. When we started cleaning, I put the CD in the DVD/MP3 player and started cleaning while listening to BNL.

I got some damn cool Christmas presents this year.
